Festival fun

I know we'll have more "officially" on the festival in days to come, but I wanted to slip in a little note about our experience at this year's version of the annual event.

Gorgeous weather. There's a reason they pick this time of year. Couldn't have been more beautiful. A nice crowd sitting on the dock, soaking up the sunshine with a little cool breeze.

Lots of locals doing well by doing good. Best collection of fund-raising I've seen in a long time. The Peninsula Neighborhood Association was selling their Taste of White Rock restaurant two-fer booklets again. I met four Peninsula residents at their booth, which we joked might be most of the small neighborhood tucked in east of the lake. They raised $5000 with the booklets last year, and are shooting for $10,000 this year. Contact Mel Cyrak if you'd like one of the $12 booklets that give you "buy one, get one free" coupons to twelve local restaurants.

Lake denizen Janet Smith was selling her beautiful butterfly note cards to benefit the new butterfly garden coming soon to the Bath House lawn (Janet promises more on that soon).

Start-up Texas Massage Squad gave free chair massages to all comers and raised over $400 in donations for the lake. "The Squad" was there also to launch their in-home massage service. Watch for it—they've got an interesting new twist on massage "delivery."

We happened to wind our way down to the music venue, just as blacktopGYPSY took the stage. Country rock with great vocal harmony and some truly awesome fiddling by Heather Woodruff, who also co-writes the band's tunes with vocalist Andie Kay Joyner. These gals are rising stars in these parts, and they made a perfect end to the day's shows. End of story
