Field Day competitions such as the water relay and the classic tug-of-war are always favorites among everyone from the pint-size Pre-Ks to the mighty fifth graders. Field Day is a wonderful way to be active, but also a chance to have fun and enjoy competing against your friends.
In the morning, stand-in principal Katherine Pound cut the ribbon, announcing the opening of one of Lakewood's most anticipated events. While enjoying the glorious weather the day had brought, students in the lower grades had a blast racing their hearts out while trying not to trip in the three-legged race.
Later that afternoon, third, fourth, and fifth graders took over the field. Many fifth graders were amazed at a few unbreakable eggs during the egg-selent Egg Toss. Those eggs that did break also broke the hearts of the unlucky competitors. Others found that classmates putting on an array of swim gear for the Dress-Up Relay was about as amusing as it could get.
While chatting, socializing, and winning ribbons were taking place outside on that bright, brilliant May day, talking and laughter were also found inside the school library. Another Lakewood tradition, the Annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon was being hosted by the teachers and staff for all the hard-working moms and dads who make our school such a terrific environment. A competition was taking place there as well. Volunteers were anxious to hear who would win the title of Volunteer of the Year. When nominee hopeful, Mrs. Lucie Pound, was asked about how it felt to be nominated, she replied, "It has always been a privilege to volunteer at Lakewood. Being nominated was just icing on the cake."
For all who participated, this year's competition was another blue-ribbon day at Lakewood.

hey guys, field day was so fun, but i think it might of been better if we had the traditional icees, not those other things and those giant pixy sticks. it keeps the bees away, but the other thing was way more fun.
