Benefiting Boxers

The Legacy Boxer Rescue group fires up its biggest fundraising event in the nonprofit organization's history this weekend.

T-Shirts and Boxers takes place from 2:30-9 p.m. July 20 at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum. The event features live Texas music performed by Zen Bubba, Richard Paul Davis, Colin Boyd, Christen (CC) Cross, Nate Kipp and The Texas Bird Flu, Darryl Lee Rush, and Lost Immigrants.

Mostly, it serves as a fundraiser for Legacy Boxer rescue, which operates a network of individual foster homes, where people care for boxers saved from city shelters and other unsafe situations, until a permanent home can be found.

The 4-year-old organization placed 304 boxers in homes plast year, and so far this year has worked its magic for 198 dogs. The numbers reflect a considerable increase over the two boxers in the group's care during its first year, 2004.

Sharon Sleighter, Legacy's founder, said the organization spent more than $90,000 last year in vet bills, medication, and other expenses, and took in $32, 000 in adoption fees. She said she hopes to net about $5,000 from T-shirts and Boxers.

Admission costs $15 online or at the door. A $25 ticket includes admission to the event and a commemorative T-shirt. Go jam away the afternoon, sip an adult beverage from the cash bar, and help out a worthy cause.End of story
