Cat attacks

News yesterday spread about at least two cats who were eviscerated within the last few days near the Skillman Street-Lovers Lane intersection.

The SPCA stepped in to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the very sick person perpetrating these crimes. Note the word "person."

The story was cross-pollinated among multiple Web sites and blogs, drawing dozens of comments from the respective readers.

The boys over at Frontburner posted an item, which prompted nearly two dozen comments, one of which we had to mention having cause to report similar instances in our little part of the world.

Down at the 3:39 p.m. mark, someone blamed the attacks on coyotes. But wildlife expert after wildlife expert has told us and other news outlets that coyotes don't leave behind their prey. They drag it off to finish the meal and about the only thing left are bones and gristle and a few tufts of fur.

Let's hope people don't overreact on the coyote misinformation and go out and start killing the wild canines. Nah, people wouldn't do that, would they?End of story

Based on the info I've heard, I would have to agree we are talking about an animal - of the two-legged variety. No wild animal like a coyote would, or could, perform such a grisly act and it certainly would not leave behind it's prey. There's a sick person(s) out there, folks, and it's just one more step before we're talking about attacks on humans.

Call the police if you witness (or suspect) vicious behavior toward animals. Cruelty to animals is against the law.
