Big Business Goes Small Time

The members of the Boys and Girls Club character and leadership-building group for 'tweens, called Torch Club, ran a Lemonade for Leadership stand Aug. 3. Whole Foods Market on Lower Greenville Avenue served as the small-business backer by donating space and supplies to the local lemonade franchise.

The leadership group accepted donations for each cup of lemonade served in a take-home commemorative cup. All-natural lemonade was provided by Whole Foods Market so that total proceeds went to the club's Torch Club program.

"The Boys and Girls Club of Dallas does a wonderful job of providing a social and educational outlet for young people in the area," said Karen Lukin, a Whole Foods spokeswoman. "Their clubs give teens and 'tweens a chance to learn leadership skills and mentor the younger kids, and perform community service projects. Whole Foods Market wants to support the Torch Club's effort, with our shared mission of caring for our community and shaping the next generation of young people.

"Plus, who wouldn't want a cold cup of lemonade on a hot summer day?"End of story
