Neighborhood residents know Matt Martinez Jr. for his iconic neighborhood restaurant, Matt's Rancho Martinez.
What they might not know is his and his family's history in the boxing ring.
Kameron Jones, 13, and Jordon Jones, 17, show off their championship belt and bronze medal, respectively.
Back in the day, his father, Matt Martinez Sr. donned the gloves, and today two of Matt Jr.'s grandsons, Kameron Jones, 13, and Jordon Jones, 17, fight in the Southwest Division of the amateur Texas Select Boxing Club, part of the USA Boxing Association. Matt Jr. serves as a benefactor of the club.
After selling candy at the restaurant to fund a trip to Kansas to participate in a world tournament, Kameron won top honors in his 90-pound weight class, and Jordan brought home a bronze medal in the under-19 class.
Nice work guys,
Kameron will be at Matt's Rancho Martinez this weekend to sell more candy — to raise money for another national tournament in Oxnard, Calif. — and show off his belt. He might even sign an autograph is asked nicely enough.
