The first day of kindergarten can be a scary thing. The kids might be a little nervous, too.

To help ease the transition, Lakewood Elementary School will open its doors Aug. 21 to incoming kindergarteners and their parents for an orientation session and an ice cream social.

Sign-in starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by orientation from 6:45-7:15 p.m. The big finale — the ice cream — gets dished up from 7:15-8 p.m.
