Up-to-the-minute news and information from the Lakewood neighborhood in Dallas

Schools -> Woodrow Wilson High School

Woodrow Wilson High School, known to locals as "Woodrow," was named after the twenty-eighth president of the United States and was dedicated in 1929 as the seventh high school in Dallas. It is the alma mater to some of Dallas' most successful citizens, not to mention two Heisman Trophy winners, Davey O'Brien (1938) and Tim Brown (1986).

The arts have always been a strong suit at Woodrow. The annual spring musical, a tradition for many years, is a highlight, but there is also a fine concert band, The Variations show choir, a jazz band, the annual One Act Play and the fall play, and a full choral music program. Visual arts are also strong, with strong student competitions and exhibitions.

Many current Woodrow students are third- and fourth-generation Wildcats. Along with many alumni teachers, there is a strong sense of continuity and community in the halls of Woodrow. There is also a great variety of people from many ethnic, cultural, national, economic, and religious backgrounds, making Woodrow a rich and exciting place to study, teach, and work.

Lakewood residents have many opportunities to see and hear from Woodrow students, whether it is Friday night football, The Variations at a holiday party, or a girls' volleyball game. We're proud of our Wildcats and many neighborhood activities revolve around the students there. Explore the information here and get to know Woodrow even better.
