About Lakewood Now -> Writers' Guidelines
Lakewood Now welcomes contributions from professionals and community writers alike.
Articles should be news or features relating to the Lakewood neighborhood in east Dallas and its environs. More general submissions will be considered if they would appeal strongly to our readers.
A glance through our Past Articles (link at left) will give you a good idea of the kinds of stories we publish.
If you have not written for Lakewood Now in the past, please contact the editor by email with your article idea and a writing sample, if available. If you have a story idea but don't want to write it yourself, we are interested in talking with you as well.
We do not publish previously published material except under special circumstances. We will consider concurrent submissions if this is clearly stated in your original communication with us.
Fees for professional writers are negotiable, but you should know that you will not be purchasing a new vehicle with the proceeds from an article in Lakewood Now. Think more along the lines of a new CD holder for your sun visor.
If you have written for us before, or if your idea has already been accepted, you should provide the text of your submission via plain text email. Please avoid any type of formatting, such as boldface or font selection.
Stories should generally be in the 250-1000 word range, though exceptions on either side are possible if warranted.
As you can see, we are photograph-heavy. If you can provide (high quality) digital images to go with your submission, it is a big plus. We can provide a photographer if needed, and we will discuss this with you when we reply to your idea submission.
Lakewood Now is enjoyed by thousands of the friendly residents of Lakewood and surrounding areas. They are eager to hear what you have to say. Write for us. See your name on the web. Forward it to your uncle in Tulsa.
